Iyengar Yoga; established in 1970 by BK.S. Iyengar,, a student of the famous exponent of modern asana yoga Krishnamacharya in the 1930s. Iyengar Yoga, with its roots based on Hatha Yoga, is known for its body alignment and developing stamina by staying in the poses for extended periods of time. Iyenger yoga includes around 200 poses with variations and around 14 pranayama practices, from beginner to advanced. Iyengar yoga uses props to help the yoga student in their development in their yoga practices; the idea is to allow all to practise yoga, young and old with minimal injury to the Yoga student. Iyengar yoga has its foundation with the original 8 limbs of Yoga as written and taught by Patanjali in what is known as the Yoga Sutras.
Iyengar Yoga classes are focused on Yoga integrity and correct alignment of Asana (postures). Iyengar classes are suited to all styles of Yoga practitioners and helps improves ones overall practice including breath, stamina and focus. Rod our resident yoga teacher studied with Karin O'Bannon, a senior intermediate Iyengar Yoga instructor at the Pathmath Nikitan ashram in Rishikesh, India, and completed 489 hours teacher training in this particular style of Yoga in 2004
